Sol de Sully (Artist, Manager, Promoter) Of Hungarian and Bavarian descent, Sol de Sully was born in Rosenheim (Germany). Sol began playing with his first band at 17 years old and then joined a few others before taking on the role of an editor in well-known German publishing houses such as Piper , Hoffmann & Campe, Brücken Verlag Pabel-Moewig. He returned to the stage as a writer, director and performer. Sol wrote and directed more than 15 different shows, that were performed over 2000 times by him and his fellow comics. At the same time, he was building up a number of supporting roles in television and on movies. Putting his knowledge and practical experience into play, Sol established the Sol de Sully Agency in Munich. In representing and managing some of the most famous stand up comedians in Germany, Sol and his staff negotiate all tours, concerts, recording deals, television appearances, merchandise production for each artist in including all logistical matters relating with performance and touring. He also contributed to the content of some shows. He was also involved in the German tours of British/Australian group Ra Ra Zoo and helped with the promotion of Circus Oz first performance in Munich at the Tollwood-Festival From 1986 onwards, he made regular visits to Aotearoa with his family. He became the manager for Christchurch improvisation theatre group The Shenanigan Brothers (John Hudson / Patrick Duffy). He began branching out into music, organising European tours for New Zealand band Te Vaka and supported Mika and a handful of other New Zealand artists. Sol has always had a keen interest in Maori culture, particularly after meeting northern kaumatua Selwyn Wilson from Kawakawa, who first introduced him into Maori customs and language . After watching Moana perform with her band at Waitangi Day commemorations, he offered to introduce her to some key promoters, media, agents and media in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In 2002, Sol negotiated a record deal for Moana with SonyBMG; he organised a 35 gig tour of 5 European countries. For the last 6 years, Sol and his agency have organised international performances for the band in countries as diverse as Italy, Spain, Kanaky, Malaysia, Russia, Australia and the U.K while also managing all local engagements. His creative experience as an actor, stage performer and writer and his wide knowledge of various art forms means he provides valuable direction and criticism to Moana & the Tribe. He also worked with Moana on the Shanghai World Expo performance and the tour to Taiwan in 2010. Sol de Sully is also involved in the development of Moana & the Tribe’s new production „My name is Moana“ His passion for the band has seen him represent the group and a growing number of NZ artists (including the Maui production, Mamaku Project etc) at Womex, Midem, Popkom and AWME. In 2009 he started to cooperate with Grafiti Entertainment New Zealand supporting the European tour of Batucada Sound Machine for whom he confirmed six performances in Germany in 2010. He also advises Pacific Curls for their upcoming tour in 2011 , supports Ariana Tikao and other NZ artists His connections in the world music scene and knowledge are well known to Creative NZ and NZ Music Industry Commission . Since Oct 2006, Sol splits his time between Aotearoa and Germany, though he spends now about 70% in New Zealand, but still runs his European office in Munich Germany Sicher fragen sich Tausende, wie kommt der zu dem Namen?
